DudaPaiva Company
A choreographic blend of man and object
No language/English/surtitles possible (for production Bastard!)
In the last few years, DudaPaiva Company has developed into a unique, international company interpreting the lively cross-over of dance and object in a new and original form of contemporary dance theatre. The work is an exciting niche in the Dutch dance, an outsider that attracts, nationally and internationally, a large and broad audience.
The Brazilian-born Duda Paiva came to the Netherlands in 1996 as a dancer. His work as a maker began with Loot, a production created with Gertrude Theatre in 1998 for the CaDance festival. The challenge he encountered in this investigation was a definitive turning point.
In his work Duda Paiva explores new possibilities of increasing the expression of human movement. This research leads to a new, innovative dialogue between dance and ‘thing’, a choreographic blend of man and object. The results of this research are his productions, a unique brand of poetic, visual and magical provocation creating a feast for the eyes and an arrow through the heart.
Duda Paiva was the recipient of the Theatre Stipendium 2011 from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.
DudaPaiva Company has a strong international focus. Internationally performing and creating is a fundamental principle for all its projects and encounters and collaborations with different cultures, other theatre makers and new audiences enrich the research for our theatre language. His productions continue to travel all over the world.
DudaPaiva Company created the successful and internationally prize winning productions Angel (2004), Morningstar (2006), Malediction (2008), and Bastard! (2011) and has developed workshops and master classes about animated movement.
In 2012, Paiva will release two new projects, Screaming Object, a collaboration with Mauricio de Oliveira & Siameses (Brazil) and Bestiaires, a collaboration with Riksteatret and Kilden (Norway) and Lutkovno Gledališče Ljubljana (Slovenia).
